Diljit Dosanjh has expressed his stance on Bollywood artists promoting alcohol, stating that he does not participate in such advertisements. The Punjabi singer has once again criticized the Telangana government regarding a notice addressed to him. In a lengthy video shared on his Instagram, Diljit discussed the ease of modifying his song lyrics.
Diljit Dosanjh declares to stop singing any songs on alcohol
During his concert in Ahmedabad, Diljit Dosanjh revealed that he neither consumes nor endorses alcohol products. He also proposed a pan-India movement to ban alcohol, acknowledging its significant revenue generation. He assured that if such a ban were to take place, he would refrain from singing about alcohol.
The clip started with Diljit sharing the good news that no notice was issued to him during his Ahmedabad performance. He followed this with another piece of good news: he wouldn’t be singing any songs about alcohol, given that Gujarat is a dry state. He remarked on the many devotional songs he has sung recently, mentioning that they haven’t received the attention they deserve.
Diljit Dosanjh noted that while there are numerous songs by Bollywood artists about alcohol, he has only released three or four. He confidently stated, “Today, I won’t sing those songs either. It’s simple for me to adjust my lyrics. Main khud sharab nahi peete (I don’t drink alcohol). It’s easy for me. But Bollywood artists promote alcohol ads—Diljit Dosanjh doesn’t. Don’t provoke me. I quietly do my shows and leave. Why are you bothering me?”
Diljit Dosanjh wants to start a movement
He further discussed the idea of starting a movement: “If all the states in India declare themselves dry, then I promise I won’t ever sing songs about alcohol again. Is that possible? (laughs) It’s a huge revenue source. Even during COVID-19, everything was shut down except for alcohol shops. What are you saying? You can’t fool the youth.”
Diljit suggested a better offer, stating, “Wherever I perform, declare that day as a dry day, and I won’t sing about alcohol. It’s easy for me. I’m not a new artist who would be thrown off by a request not to sing certain songs. I can easily adjust the lyrics, and the fun will remain.”
He expressed admiration for the Gujarat government, asserting his support if Gujarat is indeed a dry state. He also shared his desire for Amritsar to become a dry city as well. The video concluded with Diljit reiterating that he would stop singing about alcohol if alcohol shops were closed nationwide.
What happened?
Diljit recently made headlines after the Telangana government issued a legal notice instructing him not to perform songs that promote alcohol, drugs, or violence during his concert in Hyderabad. This notice was delivered just hours before his performance on Friday, with specific songs like “Patiala Pegg” and “Panchatara” cited in the complaint.
Dil-Luminati upcoming concert
Following his Ahmedabad concert, Diljit is set to perform in Lucknow on November 22 as part of his Dil-Luminati Tour. He will continue his tour with performances in Pune on November 24, Kolkata on November 30, Bengaluru on December 6, Indore on December 8, and Chandigarh on December 14, wrapping up in Guwahati on December 29.
